The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has recognized 156 SUNY Cortland winter and spring sports student-athletes on its All-Academic and Commissioner's List teams for the 2009-10 season.

Athletes earn a spot on the All-Academic LIst by recording at least a 3.3 grade point average during the most recent semester and are chosen to the Commissioner's List if they have at least a cumulative 3.3 grade point average over the past three semesters combined.

03.27 | Women's Gymnastics
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – Five Cortland gymnasts earned All-America honors, led by a national runner-up finish on vault by freshman Sarah Nadrowski (Buffalo/Kenmore East), during the individual event finals at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Division III Championships, hosted by Springfield College.

Nadrowski tied for second with her career-best vault score of 9.575. Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Justine Weyer won the event with a 9.70, while Springfield’s Christina Pagella tied Nadrowski for second place. Nadrowski earns first-team All-America honors, which go to the top six finishers in each event.

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – Cortland finished in fourth place out of six teams at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Division III Championships, hosted by Springfield College. The Red Dragons finished with a score of 183.425. Wisconsin-La Crosse won its ninth national title in the last 10 years and its 14th overall with a score of 186.775.

Senior Christine Haungs (Derby/Lake Shore) earned All-America honors in the all-around competition with an eighth-place score of 37.125. The top 10 all-around finishers in the field of 18 competitors earned All-America recognition. Haungs posted a 9.675 on balance beam, a 9.45 on vault, 9.40 on floor exercise and an 8.60 on uneven bars.

Springfield College will be providing live video coverage of the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 26-27. The video page also has a link to tournament results. Cortland is one of six teams competing in the team finals Friday. The all-around winner will also be determined on Friday, with individual event winners crowned on Saturday. Competition starts 4:30 p.m. on Friday and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Cortland women's gymnastics team earned a berth into the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Division III Championships with a second-place finish at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championships, hosted by The College at Brockport. Cortland will be one of six teams competing at nationals March 26-27 at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.

The top three teams at the seven-team ECAC meet qualify for nationals. Brockport repeated as ECAC champion with a score of 184.875. Cortland was a solid second with 184.10 and Springfield finished third at 182.775. Ursinus finished fourth (182.325), followed by Ithaca (180.125), Wilson (169.95) and Rhode Island College (154.75).

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland senior Chris Cate (Concord, NH) set a new school record on vault with her winning score of 9.75 during nationally third-ranked Cortland’s 187.85-186.40 dual-meet loss at fifth-ranked Ithaca College.

Cate’s score on vault eclipses the school record of 9.725, which was reached three previous times over the past six seasons. Cate’s best previous score was 9.65 at last year’s ECAC Div. III Championships.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Brockport registered a school-record score in its 190.05-186.70 dual-meet victory over host Cortland. Despite the loss, the Red Dragons recorded a season-best score and the ninth-best team score in school history.

Senior Jenn Najuch (North Tonawanda) finished second on floor exercise with a career-high 9.75 and tied for second on vault with a 9.60. Freshman Amanda Recor (Lancaster) finshed second on balance beam with a career-best 9.425 and senior Chris Cate (Concord, NH) tied for second on vault with a 9.60.

SUNY Cortland sophomore Cristina Speirs (Plainview/Plainview-Old Bethpage) has been selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women's Gymnastics Specialist of the Week for the week ending Feb. 21.

Speirs helped Cortland finish first at the four-team Harriet Marranca Invitational at Ithaca College last Saturday. She finished fourth on balance beam with a 9.325 and tied for ninth place on floor exercise with a career-high 9.40.

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cortland women’s gymnastics team, sixth in the latest National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) team rankings, finished first at the four-team Harriet Marranca Invitational, hosted by Ithaca College. The Red Dragons posted a season-best score of 183.375 to defeat fifth-ranked Ithaca (183.00), top-ranked Brockport (181.525) and 14th-ranked Wilson (171.30).

SUNY Cortland freshman Amanda Recor (Lancaster) has been selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women's Gymnastics Freshman of the Week for the week ending Feb. 14.

Recor tied for 11th place on vault (9.35) and tied for 12th place on balance beam (9.225) in a quad meet hosted by Division I Rutgers University last Saturday. She has been in Cortland’s lineup for only the past two weeks following knee surgery at the end of December.
