The SUNY Cortland women's lacrosse team is ranked 13th nationally by both the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and Lacrosse Magazine in their preseason Division III national polls.

The Red Dragons finished 14-7 last season, won their 11th consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title and played in the NCAA tournament for the 11th consecutive season. Cortland won its NCAA opener before losing in the second round.

The Red Dragons will host fourth-ranked Hamilton, fifth-ranked The College of New Jersey and 20th-ranked Buffalo State and will travel to ninth-ranked Union and 14th-ranked William Smith.

In addition, senior midfielder Jess Fritz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), senior attack Nicki Mahoney (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy), junior defender Melissa Kane (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) and sophomore midfielder Lindsay Abbott (South Onondaga/Onondaga Central) have been selected as Cortland's captains.
