ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cortland women's gymnastics team, sixth in the latest National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) team rankings, finished first at the four-team Harriet Marranca Invitational, hosted by Ithaca College. The Red Dragons posted a season-best score of 183.375 to defeat fifth-ranked Ithaca (183.00), top-ranked Brockport (181.525) and 14th-ranked Wilson (171.30).
Cortland earned three of the top five spots on vault, led by senior
Chris Cate's (Concord, NH) winning score of 9.525. Senior
Jenn Najuch (North Tonawanda) placed second with a 9.50 and sophomore
Cady Tinney (Nichols/Tioga) finished in a three-way tie for third place with a 9.35.
Senior
Christine Haungs (Derby/Lake Shore) was one of the Red Dragons' three top-six finishers on balance beam with a second-place effort of 9.50. Sophomore
Cristina Speirs (Plainview/Plainview-Old Bethpage) was fourth with a 9.325 and freshman
Sarah Nadrowski (Buffalo/Kenmore East) tied for fifth with a career-best 9.075.
Najuch posted a career-best score of 9.675 on floor exercise to finish in third place. Sophomore
Ashley Fleming (Holbrook/Sachem East) tied for seventh (9.45) and Speirs had a career-high 9.40 to tie for ninth. Fleming also tied for eighth on balance beam (8.80).
Junior Eli Roberge (Southington, CT) was Cortland's best performer on uneven bars. She finished in fifth place with a 9.15. Haungs placed seventh on vault (9.25) and was second of seven competitors in the all-around with a 36.65.
