PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Stephanie Moberg scored three goals and assisted on another as nationally top-ranked Plattsburgh defeated Cortland, 6-1, in an ECAC West matchup. The Cardinals pulled away with three third-period goals and are now 17-1-1 overall and 14-0-1 in the conference. Cortland falls to 4-15-1 and 3-10-1.
Senior Jeanna Dippel (DuBois, PA/North American Hockey Academy) scored Cortland's lone goal and freshman Sarah Sitcov (Arlington, VA/Wyoming Seminary) made 44 saves for the Red Dragons. Plattsburgh's Anne Loewen finished with eight saves.
Moberg opened the scoring two minutes, 10 seconds into the game, but Dippel responded with her first goal of the season, assisted by freshman Chelsey Wright (Medford/Suffolk PAL), to tie the game at 1-1 less than five minutes later.
Plattsburgh took a 2-1 lead on another Moberg goal with 8:09 left in the first. The Cardinals peppered the Red Dragons with 20 shots on goal in the second period, but Sitcov turned away 19 of them to keep Cortland within striking distance. Kate Fairfield netted the only goal of the period with 11:26 left to put the hosts up 3-1.
Megan DiJulio scored a power play goal 5:05 into the third period to push the lead to 4-1. Teal Gove added a goal with 8:29 left and Moberg completed her hat trick with 7:37 remaining.
