UNION, N.J. – The nationally fourth-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team scored the first 14 goals of the game and went on to defeat host Kean, 16-1, Wednesday night in non-conference action. The Red Dragons improved to 2-2 with the win, while the Cougars fell to 3-3 with the loss.

Nine different players scored goals for Cortland, led by sophomore Mike Tota's (Webster/Webster Schroeder) game-high four scores. Junior Chris DeLuca (Sayville) added three goals, one assist and won 9-of-11 faceoffs. Senior Brandon Misiaszek (New Hartford) recorded two goals and an assist, and senior Tom Burke (Massapequa) netted a pair of scores. Junior Jay DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields) had a goal and two assists and senior Brian Krol (Niskayuna) chipped in with a goal and an assist. Juniors Brian Donahue (Camillus/West Genesee) and Pat Hayes (Mastic/Eastport South Manor) and sophomore Jack Kennedy (Camillus/West Genesee) each scored once. 

Freshman goalie Mike Kaminski (Sayville) started in goal and made two saves in the opening half. Freshman Bobby Whitmarsh (Smithtown/Smithtown East) made two saves in the third quarter in his first collegiate action before giving way to sophomore Kyle Gaebel (Deferiet/Carthage), who stopped one shot over the final 15 minutes.

Senior Anthony Bertucci (Edison, NJ) scored Kean's goal in the third quarter to stop Cortland's 14-goal run. Senior C.J. Gannon (Morris Plains, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) assisted on the score. Senior goalie John Gesumaria (Cranford, NJ) started in the cage and made 14 saves in the first 57 minutes, 45 seconds. Freshman Lane Zierten (Washington Township, NJ) played the final 2:15 and did not face a shot.
