CORTLAND, N.Y. - Senior
Brian Krol (Niskayuna) recorded four goals and two assists and sophomore
Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) scored four goals as the nationally fourth-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team opened up a 12-0 lead at the half and went on to defeat Clarkson, 18-2, Saturday afternoon at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.
Junior
Chris DeLuca (Sayville) added three goals and an assist for Cortland (3-2) as 10 different players found the back of the net. Sophomore
Greg Wright (Irondequoit) contributed a goal and two assists and seniors
Tom Burke (Massapequa) and
Brandon Misiaszek (New Hartford) each had a goal an assist. Senior
Chris Dutkowsky (Vestal) and junior
Brian Donahue (Camillus) scored one goal apiece, while freshmen
Thomas Casey (Yorktown) and
Jordan Rogers (Camillus/West Genesee) each scored his first career goal. Junior
Justin Battino (Plainview) won 8-of-13 faceoffs, and junior
Eric Parah (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) collected a game-high four ground balls.
Freshman
Mike Kaminski (Sayville) started in goal and made three saves while allowing no goals in the first half for the second consecutive game. Sophomore
Kyle Gaebel (Deferiet/Carthage) stopped two shots and gave up two goals in the third quarter. Freshman
Bobby Whitmarsh (Smithtown/Smithtown East) finished the game between the pipes, making three saves in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Eric Gollands (Chelmsford, MD) scored his seventh goal of the season for Clarkson (0-5), and freshman Brendon Shearin also scored for the Golden Knights. Freshman Kyle Kasprzyk (Orchard Park) picked up an assist. Freshman Kyle Hohmann (Rochester/Brighton) was the first of four goalies to see action for Clarkson, stopping four shots in the first quarter. Freshman Pat Briggs (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) made three saves in the second quarter, sophomore Pat Sweeney (Canton) registered two saves in the third quarter and freshman Ryan Cole (Orchard Park) turned aside three shots in the final 15 minutes.
Krol netted all four of his goals in the opening half, while DeLuca scored all three of his and Tota scored three before intermission as Cortland led 7-0 after the first quarter and 12-0 at the half. Gollands put Clarkson on the scoreboard 49 seconds into the third quarter, but Tota answered two minutes later with a man-up goal to equal Krol's team-high 11 goals on the season. Shearin made it 13-2 with an unassisted score at 10 minutes, 41 seconds of the third before Cortland closed the game with the last three goals of the third quarter and the only two in the fourth.
The Red Dragons won 14-of-23 faceoffs in the game, out shot the Golden Knights, 44-15, and held a convincing 43-19 advantage in ground balls.
