Cortland Pulls Away for 16-7 Win at Rochester; Abbott Surpasses Career 100-Point Mark

Lindsay Abbott led Cortland with seven goals and one assist and became only the 10th Cortland player to reach 100 career points as a sophomore
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore Lindsay Abbott (South Onondaga/Onondaga Central) recorded seven goals and one assist and surpassed the career 100-point mark as nationally ninth-ranked Cortland defeated the University of Rochester, 16-7, in a non-league contest.

Abbott has career totals of 86 goals and 20 assists for 106 points in 25 collegiate contests. She is the 31st player in school history to reach 100 points and only the 10th Red Dragon to hit that plateau as a sophomore.

Freshman Maria Di Fato (Camillus/West Genesee) and sophomore Kelly Radigan (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) each finished with three goals for Cortland (3-1). Freshman Ally Levy (Reisterstown, MD/Seton Keough) made seven saves.

Rochester (1-5), which trailed only 9-7 with 15 minutes remaining, was led by senior Danielle Mondro's (Concord, NH/Bishop Brady) three goals and sophomore Niki Holmes' (New Woodstock/Cazenovia) two tallies. Freshman Frances Cooley (Cleveland Heights, OH/Hawken School) totaled nine saves.

Abbott scored three times and Radigan scored twice during the first 19 minutes of the game as Cortland raced out to a 7-2 lead. Neither team scored, however, from the 11:28 mark until Holmes found the net with 12 seconds left in the half and Cortland's lead was 7-3 at halftime.

A free position goal by Abbott 1:01 into the second half put Cortland back up by five, but the Yellowjackets scored four of the next five goals – two by Mondro – and were within two with 15:14 left. Radigan answered with 14:33 left and Abbott and DiFato each scored twice in the final eight minutes during the Red Dragons' game-ending 7-0 run. In addition to her eight points, Abbott registered 10 of Cortland's 15 winning draw controls.
