Junior Jay DiStefano scored his three goals on three shots
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Nationally fourth-ranked Cortland's starting attack scored 9-of-15 goals and the Red Dragons opened SUNYAC play with a convincing 15-3 win at The College at Brockport Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons improved to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference with the victory. The Golden Eagles fell to 6-2 and 0-1.

Senior Brian Krol (Niskayuna) led the Cortland offense with four goals to become the 41st player in Cortland history to surpass 100 career points (82 goals, 20 assists). Junior Jay DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields) scored three goals and recorded two assists, sophomore Greg Wright (Irondequoit) contributed two goals and two assists and sophomore Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) had two goals and an assist. Junior Chris DeLuca (Sayville) added a goal and two assists. Senior Chris Dutkowsky (Vestal) registered a goal and an assist and senior Tom Burke (Massapequa) chipped in with a goal and an assist and a game-high six ground balls. Freshman goalie Mike Kaminski (Sayville) did not make a save in the 22 minutes, 30 seconds of play before giving way to freshman Bobby Whitmarsh (Smithtown/Smithtown East), who did not stop a shot in 15 minutes of action. Sophomore Kyle Gaebel (Deferiet/Carthage) played the final 22:30 and registered one save.

Junior Mike Tammaro (Painted Post/Corning West) scored twice for Brockport, junior Andy Hilton (Rochester/Gates-Chili) netted a goal and freshman Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) added two assists. Freshman Jason Baetzhold (Rochester/Gates-Chili) stopped four shots in 20:01 and freshman Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) did not make a save in 15 minutes of action.

Cortand jumped on the Golden Eagles quickly, taking a 3-0 lead on two goals from Krol and one from DiStefano four minutes into the game. The Red Dragons then took control of the contest with a three-goal burst in a 74-second span late in the first quarter to grab a 6-0 lead. Tammaro briefly halted Cortland's momentum with 25 seconds remaining in the stanza, but Cortland still maintained a 6-1 lead.

The Red Dragons put the game out of reach with all six goals in the second quarter, again starting quickly with goals from Tota and DiStefano just 18 and 24 seconds into the quarter, respectively. Cortland finished off the first half with four goals in the last five minutes and held a commanding, 12-2, lead at the break.

In the third quarter, Tammaro and Hilton tallied back-to-back man-up goals at 6:52 and 3:40 to make it a 12-3 game, but DiStefano scored his fourth of the game with five seconds remaining in the quarter and Krol and junior Sam Dutkowsky (Vestal) netted the final two goals of the game in the fourth quarter for the 15-3 final.
