CORTLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore
Kelly Radigan (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) scored five goals and assisted on another to help lead the nationally eighth-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team to a 14-10 win versus third-ranked The College of New Jersey Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The Red Dragons improved to 14-2 with the victory, while the Lions dropped to 14-3.
Sophomore
Erin Kollar (East Islip) added a season-high three goals for Cortland. Senior
Jess Fritz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scored twice and handed out three assists, freshman
Maria Di Fato (Camillus/West Genesee) tallied two goals, sophomore
Lindsay Abbott (South Onondaga/Onondaga Central) had one goal and one assist and junior
Bri Shost (Mahopac) scored once. Freshman goalie
Ally Levy (Reisterstown, MD/Seton Keough) made four saves. Di Fato registered five caused turnovers and four draw controls, and Abbott recorded a game-high nine draws.
Sophomore Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) led the Lions with five goals and two assists. Senior Lisa Seldeen (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) contributed two goals and two assists, while junior Ali Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) and sophomores Sara Keating (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair) and Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) each scored once. Junior goalie Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) registered 14 saves.
The first half played out as a back-and-forth affair with two goals being the largest lead. Mitchell and Selden gave the Lions a 2-0 lead three minutes, 15 seconds into the game, but Cortland strung together three scores, two from Fritz and one from Kollar, to grab a 3-2 lead. Jaeger and Mitchell answered with back-to-back goals and The College of New Jersey led 4-3 at the 19:33 mark. Abbott and Seldeen traded goals before Radigan and Di Fato scored 32 seconds apart to give Cortland a 6-5 lead. Mitchell then set up Notos' goal and scored on the free position and the Lions regained the lead, 7-6, two minutes before intermission. Di Fato tied the game at 45 seconds, but Mitchell gave The College of New Jersey an 8-7 advantage, its last of the game, heading into the break.
Kollar knotted the game at 8-all from the free position at 28:44 of the second half, and Radigan followed with a free-position goal at 27:35. Keating pulled the Lions even at 26:44, but the Red Dragons quickly answered as Shost scored at 25:45 and Radigan found the back of the net at 22:36 for an 11-9 Cortland lead. Kollar's third score of the game at 11:13 pushed Cortland's lead to 12-9, and Mitchell followed with her fifth of the game at 8:15 to make it 12-10.
Radigan closed out the game with the final two scores, the first assisted by Fritz at 5:25 and the second off an assist by Abbott, to make it 14-10. The Red Dragons gained possession after the final goal and successfully ran four minutes off the clock before a late turnover to the Lions.
Cortland returns to action when it hosts the four-team SUNYAC Tournament on May 7-8.
