Cortland Plays to 1-1 Tie at Hamilton

Freshman defender Ian Cusack scored his first career goal
CLINTON, N.Y. – The Cortland men's soccer team played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Hamilton College Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Love Field.

For the Red Dragons (0-3-1), freshman Ian Cusack (East Northport/Northport) scored his first career goal, and seniors Steve Bartkowski (Buffalo/Kenmore East) and Evan Waggoner (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) collected assists. Senior goalie Patrick Pidgeon (Williamsville/Williamsville South) made seven saves, including three in the second overtime session to preserve the tie.

Sophomore Anthony Balbo (Poughkeepsie/Spackenkill) tallied the Continentals' (1-0-1) goal, while junior Frank Compagnano (Guilderland) recorded an assist. Sophomore goalie Eric Boole (Medfield, MA) stopped one shot in 103 minutes, and freshman Freddy Porges (Short Hills, NJ/Pingry School) did not make a save in seven minutes of action.

Cortland took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute on a corner kick. Waggoner delivered the ball into the box where Bartkowski sent a header toward the goal that Cusack finished off with a header of his own for his first career score. In the 34th minute, the Continentals had a chance to knot the score but sent a penalty kick wide of the goal. Hamilton did score the equalizer in the 39th minute when Campagnano set up Balbo's first career score.

The Continentals had several chances in the second half of the game but couldn't find the back of the net.
