Brian Bistis Earns Pair of Postseason Freshman Wrestling Awards

Freshman Brian Bistis
Cortland freshman wrestler Brian Bistis (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) has earned two postseason awards following his first season with the Red Dragons.

Bistis was named the 2011 New York State College Wrestling Coaches Association Freshman of the Year in a vote of the state's coaches in all collegiate divisions. He also was selected to the national Div. III All-Freshman Team by the web site d3wrestle.com. That team consisted of one freshman for each of the 10 weight classes.

A 133-pounder, Bistis finished the season with a 23-7 record. His 11 pins were second on Cortland's squad, and he also registered two technical falls and three major decisions.

Bistis finished third in his weight class with a 3-2 record at the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Championships. He also captured the 133-pound title at the RIT Invitational and was a two-time ECWC Rookie of the Week.
