Brandon Serio and Conrad Ziemendorf All-Americans; Numerous Red Dragons All-Region

Brandon Serio was named to the D3baseball.com All-America third team and the ABCA second team
Cortland junior pitcher Brandon Serio (Bedford Hills/Fox Lane) has been selected as a second-team Division III All-American by the web site D3baseball.com and a third-team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), while junior outfielder Conrad Ziemendorf (Penfield/Webster Schroeder) has been named an honorable mention All-American by D3baseball.com, for the 2015 season.

The ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans were announced Thursday night during the opening ceremonies of the NCAA Div. III World Series at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, Wis., while the D3baseball.com All-Americans were released Wednesday afternoon.

Seven Red Dragons were named to the ABCA All-New York Region team. Serio was selected as the New York Region Pitcher of the Year and was joined by Ziemendorf and senior outfielder/designated hitter Vinny Bomasuto (Dunkirk) on the all-region first team. Junior first baseman Austin Clock (Niskayuna), senior shortstop Anthony Simon (Suffern/Don Bosco Prep (NJ)) and junior pitcher Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway/Lynbrook) were second-team all-region choices, and senior pitcher Brandon McClain (Coram/Longwood) earned a spot on the third team.

On the D3baseball.com All-New York Region team, Serio was also chosen as the New York Region Pitcher of the Year. Serio and Ziemendorf were voted as first-team all-region players, while Simon, Weingarten and senior second baseman Mark DeMilio (Valhalla) earned second-team slots. Senior outfielder Donny Castaldo (Mount Kisco/Fox Lane) and junior relief pitcher Travis Laitar (Fergus, ON/Centre Wellington) were named to D3baseballl.com's all-region third team, and head coach Joe Brown was selected as the web site's New York Region Coach of the Year for the second straight year.

Serio is currently 7-0 with a 1.98 ERA in nine starts. He's allowed 47 hits and seven walks in 54 and two thirds innings with 44 strikeouts. Ziemendorf is batting .345 with 14 doubles, three triples, two homers and 38 RBI in 42 games, 40 as a starter. He leads the Red Dragons in doubles, runs scored (44) and walks (25) and is tied for the team RBI lead.

Bomasuto is hitting .355 with four doubles, three triples and a team-high five homers in 39 starts. He's tied with Ziemendorf for the team lead with 38 RBI and is second with 41 runs scored. Clock is presently a .318 hitter with 10 doubles, a triple, a homer and 37 RBI. Simon is batting .359 in 40 games, 39 as a starter. He has 10 doubles, a triple, 30 RBI and 26 runs scored.

Weingarten is 8-1 with a 2.63 ERA in nine starts. The team leader in wins, Weingarten has allowed 51 hits and five walks in 51 and a third innings and has struck out 38 batters. McClain is 5-1 with a 2.22 ERA in eight starts. Over 48 and two thirds innings he has given up 40 hits and 12 walks and has fanned 35 batters.

DeMilio currently has a .327 batting average in 31 games, 29 as a starter. His totals include four doubles, four triples, four homers, 20 RBI and 39 runs scored. Castaldo is batting .355 with nine doubles, two triples, four homers, 28 RBI and 38 runs scored in 37 games, 34 as a starter. Laitar has a 1.96 ERA and four saves in 13 relief appearances. Through 18 and a third innings he's allowed seven hits and 10 walks and has struck out 25 hitters.

Brown is in his 16th season as Cortland's head coach. He's led the Red Dragons to a 40-4 record, a SUNYAC title, and an NCAA Div. III tournament regional crown. Brown currently has a combined record of 593-156-3.

Cortland will face Webster University in the opening round of the Div. III World Series on Friday, May 22, at 1:15 p.m. (Central).
