ONEONTA, N.Y. – Cortland won eight out of 10 matches, including a pin by Deuly Espinal (Brooklyn/Grand Street) and major decisions by Nick Bellanza (East Northport/John H. Glenn) and Andrew Roden (Kings Park), and the Red Dragons defeated Oneonta, 32-8, in a wrestling dual match at Oneonta's Chase Gym. Cortland improved to 11-6 on the season, while Oneonta fell to 7-2-1.

The competition opened at 184 pounds as Espinal registered a pin with just seven seconds left in the seven-minute match. Bellanza's 12-4 victory at 197 pounds and Nicholas Lupi's (Huntington) 5-2 decision at 285 pounds increased the Cortland lead to 13-0, and Roden followed with a 12-1 win at 125 pounds to extend the advantage to 17-0.

Oneonta scored its eight points via major decisions at the next two matches. Austin Sisco, ranked fourth nationally, won 16-4 at 133 pounds, and Richard Dennison posted a 13-2 win at 141 pounds.

Cortland closed the evening with four straight wins. Matt Caputo (Stony Point/North Rockland) won 6-4 in overtime when he recorded a takedown with 22 seconds left in the first sudden-victory period. Adrian Berry (Uniondale) won 8-4 at 157 pounds, Zack Zupan (Canastota) won by injury default in 30 seconds at 174 pounds, and Colin Barber (Westfield, NJ) recorded a 9-2 decision at 174 pounds.

Cortland and Oneonta will both compete at the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championships on Saturday at 10 a.m. at SUNY Oswego.
