#18 Red Dragons Drop Golden Flyers, 15-7, in Men's Lacrosse

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The nationally 18th-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team held Nazareth scoreless for a stretch of 25 minutes, 28 seconds spanning early in the second quarter to late in the third quarter in earning a 15-7 non-conference victory Monday afternoon at the Stadium Complex in a game rescheduled from Saturday.

Nine different players netted at least one goal for the Red Dragons (2-0), led by junior Thomas McNaney (Marcellus) with four. Senior Andrew Gonzalez (Sayville) and junior Nate Beresovoy (LaFayette) each tallied two goals and one assist, and senior Jimmy Nielsen (Miller Place) also scored twice.

Sophomore Joey Panariello (Islip) tallied four points on one goal and three assists, junior Devin Phelps (Chittenango) added one goal and two assists, and senior Mike Hart (Cornelius, NC/Hough) and sophomores Dean Riley (Homer) and Ethan parks (Penfield) scored one goal apiece for Cortland.

Junior goalie Joe Scalise (Fairport) finished one shy of his career high with 17 saves and also recorded three ground balls. Hart collected a team-high eight ground balls and caused three turnovers, while McNaney, Gonzalez, Panariello and senior Anthony Zangari (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) each registered four ground balls.

Junior Jacob Gray (Homer) led the Golden Flyers (0-2) with three goals, including a pair of man-up scores. Senior Hunter Burdick (Hopkinton, MA/Saint John's) scored twice, and junior Paul Walter (Framingham, MA/Marian) and sophomore Anthony Basile (Cortland/Homer) each netted a goal. Senior Joe Eiskant (Vestal) recorded two assists.

Junior goalie Rick Kronenwett (Acton, MA/Kimball Union) made nine saves and allowed six goals in the opening half for Nazareth. Freshman Alex Winkler (Fort Collins, CO) played the second half in the cage, stopping six shots. Junior Seth DeLisle (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) won 15-of-22 faceoffs and scooped up a game-high 10 ground balls.
