CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland won seven matches, including two by pin and two by technical fall, and the Red Dragons defeated visiting Delaware Valley University, 32-10, in dual-match action at Corey Gymnasium.
Cortland improved to 8-6 on the season. The Red Dragons will host Nassau Community College Saturday on 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
Cortland took a 9-0 lead after two matches after an 18-6 major decision by
Greg Chery (Ronkonkoma/Connetquot) at 157 pounds and a 22-7 technical fall in 5:37 by
Zack Zupan (Canastota) at 165 pounds. Zupan is ranked ninth nationally in Division III at 165.
The Aggies (5-7) got a 4-1 win from Eliias Vega at 174 pounds, but Cortland won the next four matches to extend its lead to 29-3 and seal the victory.
Deuly Espinal (Brooklyn/Grand Street) won by a 25-9 tech fall in 6:12 at 184 pounds and
Mike Beckwith (Greene) pinned his opponent in 2:37 at 197 pounds.
Zach Gifford (Deposit) won 3-1 at 285 pounds on a takedown with 40 seconds remaining, and
Josh Antoine (Brooklyn/Grand Street) recorded a pin in just 55 seconds at 125 pounds.
DelVal won the next two matches - a 3-0 decision by Brenden Velez at 133 pounds and a 15-1 major decision by Tim Ambacher at 141 pounds. Cortland's
Matt Maquet (Long Beach) closed the night with a 4-2 win at 149 pounds. He broke a 2-2 tie with a takedown with 33 seconds left.
