III, scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and defeated Stevens Institute, 11-5, in the Red Dragons’ first game of a seven-game Florida spring break trip. Cortland is now 6-2 on the season while the Ducks fall to 4-5. Junior Mike Assmann (Auburn) allowed only four hits and three runs, two earned, over six innings for the win. He walked three batters and recorded 11 of Cortland’s 16 strikeouts. Freshman Rich Morris (Milton/Marlboro), Cortland’s third relief pitcher, earned a save with one and a third innings of hitless and scoreless innings. BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Cortland women's gymnastics team earned a berth into the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Division III Championships with a second-place finish at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championships, hosted by The College at Brockport. Cortland will be one of six teams competing at nationals March 26-27 at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. The top three teams at the seven-team ECAC meet qualify for nationals. Brockport repeated as ECAC champion with a score of 184.875. Cortland was a solid second with 184.10 and Springfield finished third at 182.775. III Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by DePauw University. Bisceglia finished third in his heat and eighth overall in the preliminaries with a time of 49.81 seconds. The top eight runners out of 12 total competitors advanced to the finals. HAVERFORD, PA. – Junior Shawn Zordani (Littleton, CO/Heritage) scored with three minutes, 13 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and nationally fourth-ranked Salisbury held on for a 12-11 win versus fifth-ranked Cortland Wednesday afternoon. The Red Dragons fell to 1-2 with the loss, their second in five days to a top-five team, while the Gulls improved to 5-0. Eight different players scored goals for Cortland with junior Chris DeLuca (Sayville) leading the way with two goals and an assist and senior Brian Krol (Niskayuna) scoring twice. DeLuca also won 7-of-9 faceoffs. Junior Pat Hayes (Mastic/Eastport South Manor) contributed a goal and two assists, and junior Jay DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields) chipped in with one goal and one assist. Four men will represent SUNY Cortland at the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted March 12-13 by DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. SUNY Cortland men's swimmer Dan Evans (Hamburg) and women's swimmer Taylor Houseman (Rushford/Wellsville) have qualified to compete at the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The meet will be held March 17-20 at the University of Minnesota, with Beloit College (Wis.) and The College of Wooster (Ohio) serving as co-hosts. Evans has qualified to compete in both the 50-yard freestyle (March 17) and 100-yard freestyle (March 20). He will also swim in the 100-yard butterfly (March 18) since each qualifier is allowed to swim in three events. Evans enters the competition with the fifth-best time in the 100-yard freestyle (45.22) and is tied for ninth in the 50-yard freestyle (20.64). Houseman has qualified for the 100-yard breaststroke (March 19) and 200-yard breaststroke (March 20), and will also swim in the 200-yard individual medley (March 17). Ellis won the triple jump at the ECAC Div. III Championships with an NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 14.54 meters (47' 8.5”). Kaminski made nine saves in a 7-5 loss to nationally third-ranked Gettysburg College last Saturday in Massapequa, N.Y.
