Kelly O'Gorman and Cailey Cuttita Earn CoSIDA Softball Academic All-District Honors

Cortland outfielder Kelly O'Gorman (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and catcher Cailey Cuttita (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) have been selected to the 2021 Division III Softball Academic All-District team for District 3.

The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). In Division III, District 3 encompasses all schools in New York State. O'Gorman and Cuttita are eligible for national Academic All-America recognition, which will be announced in late July.

O'Gorman is a rare four-time selection (2018-21) to the academic all-district team. CoSIDA rules do not allow players to be honored until after completing their second year of competition at a school. O'Gorman, however, returned for a fifth season after the 2020 season was canceled in mid-March and student-athletes were granted an extra year of eligibility.

O'Gorman earned a bachelor's degree in inclusive childhood education in 2020 with a 3.95 cumulative GPA and currently has a 4.0 GPA as a graduate student in literacy education. This past spring, she earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) second team All-America and first team all-Northeast Region honors, and was the SUNYAC Softball Co-Player of the Year, after batting .423 with 11 doubles, five triples, seven homers, 37 RBI, 44 runs scored and five steals in 30 games.

Cuttita majored in exercise science and minored in biology. She graduated this past May with a 3.49 overall grade point average. She started all 30 games at catcher for the Red Dragons this past spring and batted .440 with nine doubles, a triple, a homer, 28 RBI and 19 runs scored. She was selected to the NFCA All-Northeast Region second team and the All-SUNYAC first team.

Cortland finished the season with a 20-10 record. The Red Dragons won the SUNYAC Eastern Division title with an 11-3 mark and advanced to the finals of the conference's postseason tournament.
