Cortland Earns Three Women's Soccer All-Region Awards

Cortland has earned three spots on the 2022 United Soccer Coaches Division III Region 3 women's soccer all-region squad. Senior defender Bryn Thompson (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) and graduate student forward Jaden Galluzzo (Commack) were named to the first team and junior midfielder Simone Neivel (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) was chosen to the second team.

Thompson is a repeat selection to the all-region first team. She started all 19 games this fall anchored a defensive unit that posted 11 shutouts and allowed only nine goals.

Galluzzo is an all-region honoree for the third time. She was on the Region 3 second team last fall and the All-East second team in 2019. She led Cortland this season with 15 goals, including six game winners, and 36 total points, and she was third with six assists in 19 starts. Galluzzo scored at least one goal in 12 games, including two each in wins over Potsdam, Buffalo State and New Paltz.

Neivel started all 18 games in which she appeared and finished the season with seven goals, four assists, 18 points and three game-winning goals. She registered two goals and two assists in a win over RPI and one goal and one assist in a victory over Potsdam.

Cortland finished the season with a 13-1-5 record. The Red Dragons won the SUNYAC regular-season title with an 8-0-1 mark, placed second in the league's postseason tournament and earned an NCAA Division III tournament at-large berth. Cortland was eliminated in penalty kicks by Geneseo in the SUNYAC finals and by Wesleyan (Conn.) in the NCAA first round, both at home, after playing to 1-1 ties.
