Three Cortland Men's Soccer Players Earn All-Region Honors

Three Cortland players have been named to the 2022 United Soccer Coaches Division III Region 3 Men's Soccer all-region team. Senior defender Ian Blugh (Staten Island/Curtis) and junior midfielder Mateo Marra (Ossining) were chosen to the all-region first team and junior forward Jack Coleman (Newark Valley/Maine-Endwell) earned a spot on the second team. 
 
Cortland finished the season with a 13-6-3 overall record and was the SUNYAC regular-season champion with a 6-1-2 league mark. The Red Dragons earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Division III playoffs and advanced to the "sweet 16" of the 64-team tournament for the second straight year. Cortland defeated Medaille, 5-2, in the opening round and advanced on penalty kicks in the second round after tying Franklin & Marshall, 3-3, before losing at Stevens, 2-1, in the third round to tie for ninth place nationally. 
 
Blugh started all 18 games in which he appeared and finished the season with two goals and one assist. He was chosen as the SUNYAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Blugh scored both goals in a 2-1 win over New Paltz and assisted on a goal in a 3-1 victory over NCAA qualifier Rowan. 
 
Marra played in all 22 games, 20 as a starter, and finished the season with nine goals and nine assists for 27 points. He led the Red Dragons in assists and game-winning goals (4). Marra recorded two goals and an assist in a win at Hobart and a goal and two assists each in wins over Oswego and Fredonia. 
 
Coleman tallied a team-high 12 goals, including three game winners, and added five assists for 29 points in 20 games, 18 as a starter. He set a Cortland NCAA playoff record with four goals in the Red Dragons' first-round win over Medaille, scored three times in a win over Oswego and had two goals and an assist in a victory over Fredonia. He also posted a goal and an assist in the NCAA second round versus Franklin & Marshall.
