Cortland Closes Regular Season with Wins vs. Clarkson and Nazareth

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Cortland women's volleyball team completed its regular-season schedule with wins over Clarkson and Nazareth in a tri-match hosted by Clarkson. The Red Dragons rebounded from losing the first set to defeat the host Golden Knights, 19-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-8, followed by a 25-18, 25-14, 25-17 sweep of the Golden Flyers. 
 
Cortland (22-3) will bring an 11-match winning streak into next weekend's SUNYAC tournament semifinals and finals, which the Red Dragons are hosting. Cortland will face either Brockport or Buffalo State in the semifinals Friday at 4 p.m. 
 
Alexa Guedez (Mamaroneck/Rye Neck) led Cortland versus Clarkson with 13 kills and nine blocks, five solo. Giovanna Rossi (Nichols/Tioga) ended with 11 kills and three blocks and Allie Sturgess (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) finished with eight kills and eight digs. Lexy Bloss (York, PA/Dallastown Area) and Anna Pilkey (Ballston Spa) had seven kills each, with Pilkey also totaling 20 digs. Kira Pirrera (Hauppauge/Smithtown West) chipped in with six kills. 
 
Ryan Hinshaw (Aurora, IL/Joliet Catholic Academy) and Samantha Rodriguez (Camarillo, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) finished with 27 and 18 assists, respectively. Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) led the team with 27 digs. 
 
Marin Hangliter and Sara Galante finished with eight kills each for Clarkson (12-11). 
 
In the win versus Nazareth, Rossi led a balance attack with 19 kills with just one error in 19 attempts (.474). Pilkey, Pirrera and Guedez each finished with seven kills and Sturgess had six kills. Rodriguez and Hinshaw each dished out 18 assists. Guedez led the team with six blocks, followed by Bloss, Pilkey and Rossi with three each. 
 
Nazareth (8-17) was led by Leah Fusilli and Tessa Grover with six kills each. Grover also had six blocks.
