Amanda Gaffney and Amarian Hughes Named SUNY Cortland Athletes of the Week

Graduate student women's golfer Amanda Gaffney (Williamsville/Williamsville East) and junior men's outdoor track and field jumper Amarian Hughes (Newburgh/Marlboro) have been named the SUNY Cortland Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 23.

Amanda Gaffney

Amanda won the title at the Northeast Women's Golf Conference Championship in Connecticut. She defeated 41 other golfers with a two-day score of 153 that included a five-over-par 75 on Saturday. She earned NWGC Golfer of the Year honors with the victory and helped Cortland win the team title and earn an NCAA automatic berth.

Amarian Hughes

Amarian broke a 40-year-old school record in the triple jump with his winning leap of 15.19 meters (49' 10") at the Cortland Classic. He broke the previous mark of 15.13 meters set by Mark Therrien in 1983. Hughes currently ranks second nationally in Division III with the effort.
