Brett Morse (Saratoga Springs) and junior
Amarian Hughes (Newburgh/Marlboro) have been chosen as the SUNYAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week ending April 23.
Morse won the 110-meter hurdles at the Cortland Classic with a time of 14.36 seconds, and his preliminary time of 14.31 seconds ranks first in the SUNYAC and is tied for sixth nationally in Division III. Morse also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash (21.94) and won the long jump (7.12 meters/23' 4.5"). All of those performances were All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifiers.Â

Hughes broke a 40-year-old school record in the triple jump with his winning leap of 15.19 meters (49' 10") at the Cortland Classic. He broke the previous record of 15.13 meters set by Mark Therrien in 1983. Hughes ranks second nationally in Division III with the effort.Â

Cortland is hosting the CNY Challenge Meet on Tuesday and will have competitors at the Shippensburg Paul Kaiser Classic on Saturday and at the Cortland Qualifier Meet on Sunday.
