Cortland sophomore third baseman
Dylan Mackenzie (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) and sophomore outfielder
Adam Mieczkowski (Vestal) have been selected to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week for the week ending May 7. The team consists of the top players for the week, by position, among all Division III schools.
Mackenzie was the lone third baseman selected. Mieczkowski, a repeat selection to the team, was one of three outfielders chosen.
Mackenzie batted .500 (5-for-10) with three homers, two doubles, a walk, 13 RBI and five runs scored during a 3-0 week for the Red Dragons. In an 11-1 win over Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday, Mackenzie drove in seven of Cortland's first eight runs with a three-run homer in the fourth and a grand slam in the fifth. Mackenzie also hit a grand slam and finished 2-for-3 with a homer, double, five RBI and three runs in a 16-4 win over Moravian on Saturday.
Mieczkowski hit .667 (6-for-9) with two homers, two walks, eight RBI and seven runs in three Cortland victories. He homered in each game of a doubleheader sweep of Moravian, increasing his team-high total to 11 homers on the season. He finished the twinbill a combined 5-for-8 with seven RBI. Earlier in the week he was 1-for-1 with two walks, a hit-by-pitch and three runs scored in the win over Mount Saint Mary.
Cortland (29-9, 16-2 SUNYAC) will host the four-team SUNYAC tournament starting Thursday at Wallace Field. Cortland will face fourth-seeded Oswego Thursday at noon, followed by Brockport versus Oneonta at 3:30 p.m.
