Dylan Beers (Woodbury/Monroe-Woodbury) have been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Baseball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week ending May 7.
Mackenzie batted .500 (5-for-10) with three homers, two doubles, a walk, 13 RBI and five runs scored during a 3-0 week for the Red Dragons. In an 11-1 win over Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday, Mackenzie drove in seven of Cortland's first eight runs with a three-run homer in the fourth and a grand slam in the fifth. Mackenzie also hit a grand slam and finished 2-for-3 with a homer, double, five RBI and three runs in a 16-4 win over Moravian on Saturday.
Mackenzie has played in 34 games this spring and is batting .331 with six homers, a triple, seven doubles, 28 runs scored and a team-high 48 RBI.
Beers tossed six no-hit innings, allowing one walk and striking out six, before being pulled in a 12-0 win over Moravian on Saturday. He improved to 8-1 on the season with 55 strikeouts, 10 walks and 27 hits allowed in 51 and two thirds innings.
Cortland (29-9, 16-2 SUNYAC) will host the four-team SUNYAC tournament Thursday through Sunday, May 11-14, at Wallace Field. Cortland is the top seed and will open versus fourth-seeded Oswego Thursday at noon.
