CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – Cortland finished in second place out of nine complete teams, and
Gina Milazzo (Greenwood Lake/Warwick Valley) shared medalist honors, at the Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) Fall Classic, held at the Van Patten Golf Club.
The tournament is one of two, one-day fall tournaments held by the conference. It was originally erroneously reported here that the Fall Classic would be a two-day event; instead, the NWGC Fall Invitational will be held Saturday at the Mohawk River Country Club in Rexford. The NWGC Championship, which determines the league's NCAA automatic berth, will be held next April.
Cortland finished with a 337, eight strokes behind Suffolk in the team standings. Nazareth placed third with a 360 and Utica was fourth with a 370.
Milazzo finished as the individual tri-champion, along with Suffolk's Krisna Mahendran and Brooke Bugajewski, with an 80 on the par-72 course.
Sophie Oristian (North Potomac, MD/Quince Orchard) was part of a three-way tie for fourth place with an 81, one stroke off the lead. Milazzo finished with 11 pars and Oristian recorded a birdie and nine pars.
All of Cortland's five golfers placed in the top half of the 50-golfer field.
Pia Aguilar (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Highlands) tied for 10th place with an 87,
Mimi Rienzo (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) tied for 13th place with an 89 and
Kara Dumas (Jefferson/Gilboa-Conesville) tied for 23rd with a 95. Dumas birdied the par-5, 490-yard first hole.
