Samantha Matthes (Saint James/Smithtown East) have earned weekly Swimming and Diving awards from the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) for the week ending Jan. 26. Sugrue-Neuendorf is the SUNYAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, Kohlhoff is the league's Men's Diver of the Week, and Matthes is the SUNYAC Women's Diver of the Week.
Sugrue-Neuendorf won his award for the third time this season. He won both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.87) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.31), and he swam the breaststroke leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:39.07) and the third leg on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:29.68), during Cortland's 161-126 dual win at Oswego Saturday. The previous day at home, he won the 100-yard freestyle (48.71) and swam on both the 400-yard medley relay (3:39.99) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:15.10) in a 135-77 dual win over Oneonta.
Kohlhoff earned his honor for the fifth time this year. He won 1-meter diving with a 6-dive score of 281.45 points in Cortland's 161-126 dual win at Oswego Saturday. The previous day he finished second on the 1-meter board with 246.15 points in a 135-77 dual win over visiting Oneonta. Kohlhoff finished the weekend Sunday by placing second out of 12 divers at the Ithaca Dick Comanzo Invitational with an 11-dive score of 498.45 points.
Matthes won the 3-meter diving competition with a 6-dive score of 236.10 points during Cortland's 147-147 dual tie at Oswego Saturday. The following day she was Cortland's top finisher on the 1-meter board in eighth place out of 21 divers at the Ithaca Dick Comanzo Invitational with an 11-dive score of 353.55 points.
Cortland will compete Saturday at the Merchant Marine Academy Memorial Invitational in Kings Point, N.Y.
