Luis Misla Named SUNYAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Cortland senior Luis Misla (Tampa, FL/Riverview) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 27. This is the fifth time this season that Misla has been honored with the conference's weekly award.

Misla set a Cortland single-game school record with 19 strikeouts in the Red Dragons' 5-1 win at Plattsburgh on Friday. He broke the previous school mark of 17 strikeouts and has now struck out 10 or more batters six times this season. Misla took a no-hitter two outs into the ninth inning before allowing three singles. He escaped the jam to earn his eighth win of the season. The only run he allowed was unearned without a hit in the fifth inning.

Misla became just the eighth pitcher in program history to reach 200 career strikeouts in the win, doing so in fewer than two full seasons. He is also the first pitcher in program history to record 16 or more strikeouts in multiple games, as he had 16 strikeouts in a complete-game shutout victory over New Paltz earlier this season.

In 10 starts this season, Misla has an 8-2 record, including earning the win in each of his last seven starts. For the year, he's posted a 1.21 ERA, while striking out 98 batters. He's allowed only 40 hits and 20 walks in 59.2 innings pitched, holding opposing hitters to just a .185 batting average.

Cortland improved to 24-11 after a three-game sweep of Plattsburgh over the weekend and a win over New Paltz on Tuesday. The Red Dragons host a pair of non-conference contests, against Marywood on Wednesday and Scranton on Saturday, before traveling to Canton to close out the regular season on Sunday. Cortland would lock up the top seed in the SUNYAC Tournament with a win over Canton, or with a combination of results in other conference action going in the Red Dragons' favor.
