McKenna Barry Earns Both SUNYAC Softball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week Honors

Cortland senior McKenna Barry (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) has been selected as both the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Softball Athlete of the Week and the Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 4.
 
At the plate, Barry batted .526 (10-for-19) with two home runs, four doubles, two walks, seven RBI and three runs scored in a 5-1 week for the Red Dragons. She went 2-for-3 with a homer, double, walk and four RBI in a 6-0 win at New Paltz and was a combined 5-for-7 with a homer, double and two runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of Potsdam.
 
In the circle, Barry tossed shutouts in all three of her appearances, allowing just nine hits and four walks and striking out 14 batters in 19 innings. She gave up four hits and a walk and fanned three in seven innings in the 6-0 win at New Paltz, followed by a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts in a six-inning,  8-0 win over Potsdam and a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts in six innings in an 8-0 victory versus Plattsburgh.
 
Barry has appeared in 29 games offensively this spring and is batting .381 with two homers, eight doubles, 21 RBI, 18 walks and 13 runs scored. She's made 18 pitching appearances, all starts, and is 9-5 with a 2.47 ERA, allowing 73 hits and striking out 40 batters in 79 and a third innings.
 
Cortland closed the regular season with a 20-14 record and won the SUNYAC regular-season title with a 16-2 league mark. The Red Dragons will be the top-seed and host of the six-team conference tournament, which begins on Thursday.
