Five Cortland Football Players Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

Cortland junior wide receiver Sam Cotton (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley), junior linebacker Joe Galea (Cross River/John Jay), sophomore quarterback Mike Rescigno (Arlington), senior tight end Logan Wendt (Lockport) and junior wide receiver Jayson Zeva (East Northport/St. John the Baptist) have been selected as 2025 Division III Football Academic All-District honorees for District 3.
 
The all-district teams are selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). In Division III, District 3 encompasses all schools in New York State. Recipients must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and meet certain requirements in terms of contests competed in and athletic accomplishments.
 
Cotton is a business economics major who entered the fall semester with a 3.81 overall GPA. In 10 games this season, Cotton caught 28 passes for 466 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 113 yards on 16 carries and he threw a touchdown pass on his only attempt of the season.
 
Galea is a criminology major who had a 3.56 overall GPA prior to the fall. In 11 games, Galea finished with 17 tackles, eight solo, and a pass breakup. Two of his tackles were for losses, including one sack. He recorded four tackles in the NCAA first round at Springfield.
 
Rescigno is a physical education major with a 3.82 overall GPA prior to the fall. Cortland's starting quarterback all season, Rescigno completed 128-of-216 passes (59.3 percent) for 1,728 yards and 22 touchdowns and he ran 155 times for a team-high 1,068 yards and 12 touchdowns. He set a school single-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback.
 
Wendt is a psychology major who entered the fall semester with a 3.51 GPA. He played in all 11 games and caught a pass in a win at Alfred State. In his role as a blocker, he was chosen as a first-team All-Empire 8 selection in a fullback slot.
 
Zeva is a repeat selection to the all-district team. He's a sport management major who began the fall semester with a 3.61 overall GPA. In 11 games this fall, Zeva caught 29 passes for 298 yards and three touchdowns and he ran six times for 54 yards.
 
Cortland finished the season 8-3 overall. The Red Dragons won their fifth straight Empire 8 title with a 7-0 record and made their fifth consecutive NCAA Division III playoff appearance, losing at Springfield in the opening round.
