Christina Massoni and Reaghan Hughes Earn SUNYAC Tennis Top Honors; Three Earn All-Conference Awards

Cortland senior Christina Massoni (West Babylon) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Tennis Peter J. Cahill Co-MVP and freshman Reaghan Hughes (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) has been chosen as the SUNYAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year for the 2026 fall season.

Massoni and Hughes were joined by senior Alexandra Thut (Poughquag/Arlington) on the all-conference team. Massoni was on the all-league first team for singles, while Hughes and Thut were first-team doubles and second-team singles.

Massoni shared the league MVP award with Oneonta's Haley Peck. Massoni finished the season with a 10-3 overall record at first singles, including a 4-1 mark in conference regular-season play. She also had an 8-6 record in doubles action, 3-2 in the league. Massoni is a three-time All-SUNYAC singles player; she was chosen for the first team in 2025 and second team in 2024.

Massoni is the second Cortland player to earn the Cahill Award; Stephanie DiCapua was the league MVP in 2011. The award has been named for Cahill since its inception in 2007. Cahill taught and coached at Cortland for 30 years until his retirement in 2002. He passed away in 2006. In 1998, he became the women's tennis coach at Cortland and won five of next seven SUNYAC Championships while posting an impressive 59-29 record. He was selected as SUNYAC Women's Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2005.

Hughes posted a 9-5 overall singles record and 5-0 conference mark this fall, all at third singles, and Thut was 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the league at fourth singles. As a doubles team, Hughes and Thut finished 9-4 at second doubles, including a 4-1 league record.

Cortland finished the fall season with a 7-7 mark overall and 3-2 in SUNYAC play. The Red Dragons finished the regular season in third place in the league and earned a spot in the four-team SUNYAC tournament. Cortland lost to second-seeded Oneonta in the semifinals.
