Alex Zakrzewski Named to SUNYAC Men's Hockey All-Rookie Team

SUNY Cortland defenseman Alex Zakrzewski (Orchard Park/Rochester Jr. Americans) is one of six players named to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Ice Hockey All-Rookie Team, as the conference unveiled its all-conference honors on Thursday afternoon.

Zakrzewski has played in 21 games on defense during the season for the Red Dragons, providing 11 points on two goals and nine assists and leads Cortland defensemen in scoring. The freshman has at least one point in eight contests, including a goal and an assist against Skidmore, two assists in a win at Buffalo State, and two assists in a home victory over Lebanon Valley. He has also recorded 14 blocked shots, while helping the Cortland defense post a 2.43 goals-against average in 14 conference game that he played in.

Cortland has a 14-11-1 record heading into the semifinals of the SUNYAC tournament. The fourth-seeded Red Dragons earned a 2-0 victory over fifth-seeded Canton in the first round of the conference playoffs on Wednesday evening, and head to face nationally top-ranked Hobart on Saturday at 7 p.m.
