POTSDAM, N.Y. - Cortland's starting pitching did not allow any runs as the Red Dragons opened SUNYAC softball play with a doubleheader sweep at Potsdam.

Cortland (10-5, 2-0 SUNYAC) won the opener, 9-0 in six innings, behind a shutout from
Gianna Endieveri (Glens Falls), and the Red Dragons posted a 9-2 win in the nightcap as
Olivia DiSalvo (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains Regional) tossed five shutout innings and
Kaitlyn Macumber (Deposit) pitched the final two innings for the save.

Cortland will play at Plattsburgh in a league doubleheader Saturday at noon.

Cortland 9, Potsdam 0 (6 inn.)

The first game started off as a pitching duel between Endieveri and Potsdam's Emily Birmingham, with neither team scoring through first four innings. Cortland broke through for six runs in the fifth inning and added three in the sixth to eventually force an eight-run rule victory.

Endieveri threw a three-hit shutout, striking out six and walking one in six innings to improve to 4-2 on the season. Birmingham eventually allowed nine runs, but only three earned, on 10 hits in six frames.

Katie Stork (Massapequa) finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored,
Laila Smith (Guilderland) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and
Morgan Ellerbrock (Colonie) went 2-for-4 for the Red Dragons.
Kaeli McAnally (Islip) and
Emma Robins (Levittown/Division Avenue) each drove in two runs. For Potsdam, Payton St. Clair and Maddalyn Wasserman each finished 1-for-2.

The scoring in Cortland's six-run fifth inning began with a Stork RBI single and a
Shelby LaMont (Amsterdam) sacrifice fly. The third run scored on an error,
Kayla Pendergast (West Hempstead) was hit by a pitch to force in a run, and Robins drove in the final two runs with a pinch-hit two-run single with the bases loaded. The Red Dragons plated three in the sixth on an error and a McAnally two-run single.

Cortland led 3-0 after scoring single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings. The Red Dragons broke open the game with six runs in the top of the seventh, and Potsdam scored its two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

DiSalvo allowed two hits and no runs over five innings to run her record to 4-0. She struck out five batters and didn't walk anyone. Macumber started the bottom of the sixth in a save situation with Cortland up 3-0 and allowed two runs, one earned, over the last two innings. She gave up three hits.

Smith,
Shannon Scotto (Putnam Valley/Lakeland) and
Maggie Cummings (Holland Patent) each finished 2-for-4. Smith had a double and scored two runs, Cummings doubled and drove in two, and Scotto had two RBI. LaMont doubled and drove in two runs, Pendergast was 1-for-2 with a double, walk and two runs scored, and
Lillian Morse (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) finished 1-for-2 off the bench.

St. Clair went 2-for-3 and Birmingham was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Potsdam. The Bears' starter, Sam Horne, allowed nine runs in six-plus innings.

Cortland scored in the second on a Cummings RBI double, and in the fourth Smith led off with a double and eventually scored on a Scotto RBI groundout. In the fifth, Pendergast walked, was bunted to second by
Sam Pusloskie (Clarence) and eventually scored on an error.

In the seventh, Pendergast doubled, Morse singled and
Kayla Santo (Franklin Square/Valley Stream North) hit an RBI single to make it 4-0. Smith's RBI infield single pushed the lead to 5-0, and LaMont hit a two-run double to up the lead to 7-0. Cortland's final two runs came on a Scotto RBI groundout and a Cummings RBI single.

Potsdam (7-9, 0-2 SUNYAC) broke up Cortland's shutout bid in the bottom of the seventh. Birmingham's RBI infield single scored a run, and a throwing error on the play allowed a second run to cross the plate.
