Cortland Takes Down Oswego, 23-6

CORTLAND, NY – Twenty different Red Dragons finished with a point as the Cortland men's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-6 home victory over Oswego in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Wednesday evening on Grady Field. The Red Dragons are now 7-5 (3-0 SUNYAC), while the Lakers drop to 7-3 (1-2 SUNYAC).
 
Nick Stoecker (East Setauket/Ward Melville) and Sean Kavanagh (North Canton, OH/Hoover) each had five points on three goals and two assists for Cortland, and Stefan Swedlund (Randolph, NJ) scored four times. Drew Williamee (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) scored twice and added an assist, and Conor Cosgrove (Warwick/Don Bosco Prep, NJ) had two goals, and six ground balls.
 
Nicky Miltenberger (Ridge/Longwood) won 10-of-14 faceoffs, while Dino Bowen (Yorktown) led the Cortland defense with three caused turnovers. Charlie Falowski (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) finished with eight saves and allowed only four goals over the first three quarter to earn the victory.
 
Garrett Elston had two goals and an assist for Oswego, while Emmet Starowicz added a goal and two assists. Seamus Hand finished with 23 saves for the Lakers in 50:00 of game action. Colton Maher scooped up six ground balls.
 
Kavanagh got Cortland on the board 50 seconds into the first quarter, but Oswego tied the score with a goal by Logan Postel with 11:34 remaining in the frame. Cortland scored three goals in the span of 1:35 of game action, including the first two goals of the season from Cosgrove, to jump ahead by a 4-1 score.
 
Kavanagh extended the lead to four with his second goal of the contest, before Elston pulled Oswego back within three with under three minutes left in the frame. Swedlund tallied his first goal of the game with 1:16 left for a 6-2 Cortland lead after one quarter.
 
Cortland outscored Oswego 7-0 in the second quarter to take control of the contest and hold a 13-2 lead at halftime. Swedlund tallied two goals during the period and five other players – Stoecker, Frank Neeson (Orchard Park), Gannon Houghton (Morrisville/Cazenovia), Ethan Pope (New Hartford), and Eli Volk (Alamo, CA/San Ramon Valley) – scored a goal each.
 
Swedlund, Kavanagh, Stoecker, and Colton Hornquist (Eden) added a goal each in the third quarter to help Cortland extend its lead to 17-4 at the end of the third quarter.
 
Oswego added a pair of goals early in the fourth quarter to reduce the Lakers' deficit to 11 with 12:37 left in regulation, but Cortland finished the game with six goals in the final 10 minutes of action to secure the 23-6 victory. In the final ten minutes, Williamee and Jacob Miller (Binghamton/Blue Ridge) each had two goals, which Michael Restino (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) and Steven Baronowski (Floral Park/Floral Park Memorial) also tallied a goal each. Asher Harrison (Gansevoort/Schuylerville) entered to play the final 5:04 in goal, making two saves and not allowing a goal.
