Four Cortland Baseball Players Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

Cortland senior shortstop Danny Jackson (Lagrangeville/Arlington), senior pitcher Tommy Lynch (West Seneca/Canisius), sophomore catcher Jack McFerran (Selkirk/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) and junior first baseman Nolan Smith (Hamburg) have been named to the 2026 Division III Baseball Academic All-District team for District 3.
 
The all-district teams are selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). In Division III, District 3 encompasses all schools in New York State. Recipients must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average and meet certain requirements in terms of contests competed in and athletic accomplishments.
 
Smith earned the honor for the second straight year, while Lynch was recognized for the second time in the past three years.
 
Jackson is a business education major who graduated this spring with a 3.63 overall GPA. He appeared in 40 games, 29 as a starter, and batted .354 with two homers, eight doubles, a triple, 29 RBI, 28 runs and 15 walks. Jackson also posted a .949 fielding percentage, committing just six errors in 117 total chances (44 putouts, 67 assists.
 
Lynch is a physical education major with a 3.59 overall GPA. He's scheduled to graduate after student teaching this upcoming fall. Lynch pitched in 18 games this season and finished 3-1 with three saves and a 3.72 ERA. He struck out 22 batters in 19 and a third innings.
 
McFerran is a sport management major with a 3.66 overall GPA. He played in 43 games, 35 as a starter, and batted .293 with six homers, seven doubles, 35 RBI and 22 runs scored.
 
Smith is a psychology major with a 3.63 overall GPA. He appeared in 33 games, 31 as a starter, seeing time at both designated hitter and first base. He batted .336 with five homers, 14 doubles, 47 RBI, 32 runs scored and 28 walks.
 
Cortland finished the season with a 30-12-1 record, including a 15-1 mark to win the SUNYAC regular-season title. The Red Dragons repeated as SUNYAC tournament champion and extended their Division III record to 33 straight NCAA tournament appearances. Cortland finished 1-2 in a regional hosted by Denison University in Granville, Ohio, to tie for 33rd place nationally.
