SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Three Cortland golfers posted top-10 finishes as the Red Dragons placed third as a team at the Union College Fall Invitational. The two-day tournament was held at the Mohawk Golf Club.
Cortland recorded a 338 on Saturday and a 344 on Sunday for a total of 682 on the par-73 course. Ithaca was the team champion with a 641 (319-322), followed by Union (342-337-679), Cortland, and Vassar (346-350-696).
Gina Milazzo (Greenwood Lake/Warwick Valley) finished eighth out of 24 golfers with a two-day score of 165. She carded an 84 on the opening day and an 81 on the second day. Ithaca's Helena Winterberg (79-78) and Vassar's Teaen Sweet (77-80) tied for first with totals of 157.
Chloe Tice (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Mimi Rienzo (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) tied for 10th place, each with a 168. Tice opened with an 85, followed by an 83, while Rienzo shot an 81 Saturday and an 87 Sunday.
Steffi Trombley (Plattsburgh), as an individual entry, finished 13th with a 176, posting an 88 each day. She birdied two holes on Sunday.
Cortland will return to action Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27, at the Catholic University Fall Classic, held in Hagerstown, Md.
