SUNY Cortland Men's Lacrosse head coach Lelan Rogers has announced the hiring of Sean Eccles as the program's top assistant coach for the 2026-27 school year. Eccles will head a Cortland offensive unit that led the nation in scoring at 19.43 goals per game during the 2026 season. 
 
Eccles most recently served on the staff at New Jersey Institute of Technology for three seasons, including helping to guide the Highlanders to the most victories in a single season in the program's history in 2024. 
 
No stranger to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), Eccles served one season as interim head coach at Oswego in 2022. He led the Lakers to an 8-6 overall record, and mentored three All-SUNYAC awardees, including SUNYAC Rookie of the Year Logan Prescott. 
 
Eccles got his start in collegiate coaching as an assistant coach at Georgian Court University during the 2021 season. He helped the Lions to an 8-5 record and an appearance in the semifinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament, and had four athletes earn All-CACC honors.
 
Also a standout lacrosse player at the University of Albany, Eccles was a four-year midfielder, two-time All-America East selection, and senior-year captain for the Great Danes from 2016-19. He scored 111 points on 83 goals and 28 assists over 65 career games, and was a member of the 2018 Albany squad that reached the NCAA Final Four for the first time in program history. 
 
Eccles earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Albany in 2019, and was later drafted to play lacrosse professionally by the Denver Outlaws in Major League Lacrosse. 
 
A Syracuse, NY native, Eccles graduated from Corcoran High School in 2015. He was a four-year member of both the lacrosse and ice hockey teams, including earning 2015 US Lacrosse All-America honors.
