Cortland Drops Decision to Geneseo in Season Opener

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Cortland women's tennis team began its 2026 fall season with a 7-0 non-league loss to visiting Geneseo.
 
The Red Dragons return to action Saturday at noon at Houghton University.
 
Geneseo (2-0) opened by winning all three doubles matches to claim the one team doubles point. Natalie Pipes and JoAnn Catalano won 6-1 at first doubles, while Samantha Rava and Rachel Malloy won 6-2 on the second flight and Talia Wutz and Lauren Levatino won 6-2 at third doubles.
 
The tightest singles matches came at number one and number four. At fourth singles, Levatino and Cortland's Alexandra Thut (Poughquag/Arlington) were tied at 6-6 in the first set before Levatino won the tiebreaker, 7-4, to earn the 7-6 win. Levatino then won 6-1 in the second set. At first singles, Pipes edged Christina Massoni (West Babylon) in the opening set, 7-5, and won the second set, 6-2.
 
Geneseo's other singles victories were registered by Rava at number two, 6-1, 6-2, Molloy at number three, 6-3, 6-0, Wutz at number five, 6-0, 6-0, and Catalano at number six, 6-1, 6-0.
