Cortland Registers Top-Five Team Score in Program History at St. Lawrence Invitational

Gina Milazzo registered a one-over par 73 on Saturday
CANTON, N.Y. – The Cortland women's golf team registered one of the top performances in program history with a two-day score of 635 at the St. Lawrence Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.
 
Cortland finished fourth out of eight teams in the final standings. National power NYU fielded two teams at the event, with its "A" team winning with a 574 (289-285) and its "B" team second with a 588 (297-291). Ithaca placed third with a 627 (315-312) and Cortland was fourth with its 635 (315-320). The 635 is the fifth-best two-day team score for the Red Dragons, while the 315 on Saturday is sixth on the school charts.
 
Cortland finished 18 strokes ahead of fifth-place Union (334-319-653). Suffolk, St. Lawrence and Utica rounded out the field.
 
Junior Gina Milazzo (Greenwood Lake/Warwick Valley) and freshman Chloe Tice (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) tied for eighth place in the 40-golfer field and were the top non-NYU finishers. Milazzo carded a one-over par 73 on Saturday and a 78 on Sunday for a 151, while Tice posted a 75 on the opening day and a 76 on the second day. NYU's Yiyi (Elisa) Xue was tournament medalist with a 139 (69-70).
 
Milazzo's Saturday round of 73 included an eagle on the 508-yard, par-5 11th hole. She recorded 13 pars on Sunday. Tice registered three birdies in each of her rounds.
 
Senior Mimi Rienzo (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) tied for 19th place with a career-best 162. She opened with a single-round career-best of 79 Saturday, including two birdies, and finished with one birdie and an 83 on Sunday.
 
Junior Steffi Trombley (Plattsburgh) finished 25th with a career-best 173. After posting a 90 with one birdie on Saturday, Trombley carded a career-best 83 on Sunday.
 
Graduate student Kara Dumas (Jefferson/Gilboa-Conesville) placed 27th with a 177, starting with an 88 Saturday followed by an 89 Sunday. Freshman Sara Pepp (East Islip), as an individual entry, tied for 30th place with a 186 (95 Saturday, 91 Sunday).
